“The Cheater” - Graphite pencils, china ink and red watercolor on paper, 41 x 31 cm.
Good exhibition opening last evening :)
My work “The Cheater” has fulfilled my hopes : I wanted it to be a surrealistic piece, leaving clues but letting the audience sense that there was something coherent about it despite being unable to connect all the dots precisely.
And the feedback confirmed that it was a success.
So, in case you were wondering, here is the full explanation :
“Two body-less heads, floating: it is a couple.
Their perspectives have changed, became different, and are now upside down.
The man’s desire (as a confusion made about the nature of things, crawling like a centipede screened through the eyes onto others’ bodies) is still existing for his wife but is henceforth topping even more another body. Because it is only faceless flesh that is sought, without any story.
His wife attempts to exert an influence that was intended tentacular, both to keep her man in her own waters and to hide the body of this other woman.
This curtain of her femininity has become insufficient to conceal this contender and the man drifts away with his obsession that grew too large, too firm, too bloated to be only contained in his mind. It has changed into a concrete craving, not a simple fantasy. And this sexual appetite is leading him.
This unfolds while he is being watched by faceless eyes, those witnessing his infidelity.”
